PREVALENCE OF GLAUCOMA IN CATARACT PATIENTS - A COMPARISON BETWEEN PRE-COVID AND POST-COVID PERIODS

Objectives: Globally, cataract and glaucoma are the predominant causes of blindness. Screening in patients referred for surgery is a convenient tool detecting cases rural population. The COVID period has adversely affected eye care as routine screening follow-ups at hospital were substantially reduced owing to pandemic restrictions. We aim study impact on detection with cataract. Methods: It was retrospective conducted compare prevalence presenting pre- post- COVID. Details 975 consecutive each taken prior March 2020 (pre-COVID) after October 2021 (post-COVID) from database patient case files. Results: higher during pre-COVID time (3.8%) compared (3.8%), but result not statistically significant. In both groups, primary open-angle pre-dominant form glaucoma, being 1.5% 2.2% post-COVID respectively. mean intraocular pressure VCDR values group group, Conclusion: This first population periods. aftermath pandemic, present emphasizes role management prevent irreversible loss vision.
